James Cook Fantasy Outlook 2026: RB5 Who Led All Backs In Rushing Last Season
Cook finished RB6 with 302.2 points after leading the position with 1,621 rushing yards against a 950.5 line, and our board, ESPN, and ADP all place him between picks 10 and 13.

Why three sources converge near the same pick
Our sportsbook-derived board ranks James Cook 11 overall with 251.0 implied PPR points. ESPN has him 12 and the draft room takes him at 12.7. That three-way consensus inside a three-pick window is notable at running back, where injury risk and backfield uncertainty usually create wider gaps between projection systems.
The agreement exists because last season answered the only questions that mattered. Cook led all running backs with 1,621 rushing yards, carried 56% of his team's rush attempts, and scored 12 rushing touchdowns. Sportsbooks had posted him at 950.5 rushing yards and 8.5 rushing touchdowns before the season. He beat the yardage line by 670 yards and the touchdown line by 3.5.
He finished RB6 and 17th overall with 302.2 PPR points across all 17 games. Nine of those games cleared 20 points and only four came in under 10, with a 33.6-point ceiling in Week 8 and a 1.5-point floor in the meaningless Week 18. The 17.8 points per game and the 56% carry share make him one of five backs who are genuinely every-week starters without game-script risk.
Cook led all running backs with 1,621 rushing yards last season while catching only 33 passes, and the market is pricing the limitation but underpricing the efficiency.
The receiving floor is the known limitation
The part that prevents him from being a top-five pick is the receiving work. He caught 33 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns last season, against a posted line of 35.2 receptions and 308.1 yards. That is not a miss — the projection was accurate — but it is also not the profile of a back who can finish top-three at the position.
