Josh Allen Fantasy Outlook 2026: Everyone Agrees On QB1, Not On What That Costs
Our board and ESPN both call Allen the top quarterback and still rank him 6 spots apart. That gap is a lesson in how positional value works.
The part everybody agrees on
Josh Allen was the highest-scoring quarterback in fantasy in 2025 in both total points and points per game, finishing with 364.6 points and 21.4 per game across 17 appearances. That extended a streak of six straight seasons finishing no worse than second at the position.
Our board has him QB1 and ESPN has him first at the position too. There is no argument about who the best fantasy quarterback is, and our projection of 361.0 implied points carries a high confidence grade because the underlying production has been this stable for this long.
A wide overall gap paired with identical positional ranks is not two opinions about the player. It is two assumptions about replacement level.
Why the overall ranks differ by 6 spots anyway
Our board ranks him 20 overall. ESPN ranks him 26. Both call him the QB1. That is not a contradiction, and the reason is worth understanding because it applies to every quarterback you will consider.
ESPN actually projects him slightly more raw fantasy points than our implied-points model does. But a quarterback's overall ranking is not a function of his own total — it is a function of how much better he is than the quarterback you could take instead, ten rounds later. Rank the position by raw points and every starting quarterback climbs into the first four rounds, which is not how a lineup with one quarterback slot actually works.
So when you see a wide overall gap on a quarterback paired with identical positional ranks, you are looking at two different assumptions about replacement level, not two different opinions about the player.
